Celebration of the 42nd Anniversary of Independence and National Day 2013

The Embassy celebrated the 42nd Anniversary of Independence and National Day of Bangladesh on 26 March 2013 with due fervor and festivity. The programme of the day
commenced with the hoisting of the national flag at full mast by H.E. the Ambassador Mr.Kazi Imtiaz Hossain in the morning at the Chancery premises. A special prayer was offered for the salvation of the departed soul of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, four national leaders and the martyrs of liberation war of Bangladesh.

Messages of the Hon’ble Acting President of Bangladesh, Hon’ble Prime Minister and Hon’ble Foreign Minister of the Government of Bangladesh issued on the occasion were
read out by the Ambassador. This was followed by a discussion session on the significance of the Day. After reading out of the messages, the Ambassador paid rich tribute to the Father of the Nation for his immense leadership and personal sacrifice for the independence of Bangladesh. The Ambassador also observed that it was incumbent on every citizen of Bangladesh to contribute for the prosperity of the nation as dreamt by Bangabandhu.

A special supplement commemorating the occasion of the 42nd Anniversary of Independence and National Day of Bangladesh was brought out in the leading English newspaper of Thailand ‘Bangkok Post’ on 26 March 2013. The Thai language newspaper Naew-Na also brought out a special supplement to mark the occasion. The Radio
Thailand broadcast the Ambassador’s address on the occasion of the 42nd Anniversary of Independence and National Day of Bangladesh.

In the evening, a reception was held at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel. Many Thai dignitaries, Ambassadors and other members of diplomatic corps, members of business community, academic of the print and electronic media and Bangladesh community living in Thailand attended the programme. Special Bangladeshi foods were served at the reception. Documentaries titled ‘The Face of Bengal’, ‘Beautiful Bangladesh’, Our Heritage’ and ‘Bangladesh: Undiscovered Gem of Asia’ were screened during the reception. An exhibition of Bangladeshi sarees was also organized by the Mission at the same hotel.

A local TV channel ‘Channel 7’ interviewed the Ambassador during the reception.
