Types of Visa

Citizens of most countries require valid visa to enter Bangladesh. The Embassy determines the type and category of visa and duration of stay upon receiving an application. The types and categories differ according to the purpose of visit, length of stay and bilateral arrangement with the country of the foreign national.

All persons need national passports valid for at least 6(six) months to visit Bangladesh. Holders of Certificate/Laissez-passer issued by the United Nations and its Specialized Agencies are acceptable travel documents for endorsement of Bangladesh visa; also acceptable are Continuous Discharge Certificate/Nullies/Seaman Book (when traveling on duty).

Embassy of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Bangkok issues, among others, the following categories of visas for foreign nationals having valid Stay / Work Permit in Thailand) wishing to visit Bangladesh:

  • Tourist visa
  • Business visa
  • Student visa
  • Employment visa
  • Diplomatic/Official visa
  • Investor visa
  • Journalist visa
  • NGO visa

Applicants who do not have Work Permits/Stay Permits in Thailand are not eligible to Apply for Third Country Visa
(A Third Country Visa Seeker is a  person who is Non-Thai or Non-Cambodian, staying in Thailand temporarily and wants to visit Bangladesh)

The visa applicant must appear in person to the Embassy for visa application. 

Tourist Visa

  1. An employment letter (mentioning that individual’s appointment/post, passport number, Thai ID number, duration of period serving in the company and salary). OR

An invitation letter from the invitee’s from Bangladesh with his/her copy of passport and National ID Card. Passport copy of the main page with picture.

02. 2 recent color photographs (2 inches size and a stamp size 2 cm. x 2 cm.) with white background.

03. Copy of valid Thai Visa, copy of Thai work permit and stay permit ( For the third county citizens)

04. A copy of the hotel reservation.

05. A copy of the air ticket.

06. Copy of the previous visa (if any)

07. A copy of (03 months) bank statement

08. A valid passport with 06 (six) months validity.

09. An authorization letter, in case the applicant is unable to submit in person.

10. A vaccine certificate

Business Visa

  1. An employment letter of the recognized company (mentioning that individual’s appointment/post, passport number, Thai ID number, duration of period serving in the company and salary).
  2. Invitation/sponsorship letter from the company in Bangladesh.
  3. 2 recent color photographs (2 inches size and a stamp size 2 cm. x 2 cm.) with white background.
  4. Copy of valid Thai Visa, copy of Thai work permit and stay permit ( For the third county citizens)
  5. A copy of hotel reservation.
  6. A copy of air ticket.
  7. Copy of the previous visa.
  8. A copy of (06/03 months) bank statement of Company or a Bank solvency letter
  9. A valid passport with 06 (six) months validity.
  10. An authorization letter, in case the applicant is unable to submit it in person.

Development partners of Bangladesh Government (A3)

  1. A recommendation letter from the concern Ministry, ERD, Govt. organization.
  2. Contract letter between Bangladesh Government and company/individual.
  3. An Employment letter from the organizations the applicants belongs to.
  4. An invitation/recommendation letter from the employer of Bangladesh.
  5. Copy of valid Thai Visa, copy of Thai work permit and stay permit ( For the third county citizens)
  6. A copy of hotel reservation.
  7. A copy of air ticket.
  8. Copy of the previous visa (if any).
  9. A valid passport with 06 (six) months validity.
  10. An authorization letter, in case the applicant is unable to submit in person

Equipment & Software Suppliers (EI)

  1. Approval letter/Letter of recommendation from the relevant Ministry or Bangladesh Investment Development Board Authority (BIDA) or Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA);
  2. An invitation/recommendation letter from the employer of Bangladesh.
  3. An employment letter of the company (mentioning that individual’s appointment/post, passport number, Thai ID number, duration of period serving in the company and salary).
  4. Suppliers contract copy.
  5. 2 recent color photographs (2 inches size and a stamp size 2 cm. x 2 cm.) with white background.
  6. Copy of valid Thai Visa, copy of Thai work permit and stay permit ( For the  third county citizens)
  7. A copy of hotel reservation.
  8. A copy of air ticket.
  9. Copy of the previous visa (if any).
  10. A valid passport with 06 (six) months validity.
  11. An authorization letter, in case the applicant is unable to submit

Student Visa:

Regular students / students seeking admission / researchers in any government-approved educational institution would be eligible for student visa. The following documents will be required for student visa:

  • Proof of letter from the Bangladesh Government-approved educational institution where the applicant has got admitted or going to be admitted;
  • Sponsorship letter from the concern educational institute of Bangladesh;
  • Bank statement (last three months);
  • Student ID with a photocopy;
  • Two copies of 45mm X 35mm photographs;
  • Duly filled-in visa application form.

Employment Visa:

Experts / advisers / employees / Individuals appointed in government / semi-government/ autonomous bodies / projects and equivalent organizations, individuals employed in local/ foreign government / semi-government/ liaison / industrial / commercial organizations or other equivalent organizations, and individuals appointed under local / foreign government / semi-government contractor-ship and in equivalent organizations would be eligible for employment
visa. The following documents will be required for employment visa:

1.Approval letter/Letter of recommendation from the relevant Ministry or Bangladesh Investment Development Board Authority (BIDA) or Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA);An invitation/recommendation letter from the employer of Bangladesh.

2. Appointment letter or contract papers with full terms and conditions;

3. 2 recent color photographs (2 inches size and a stamp size 2 cm. x 2 cm.) with white background.

4. Copy of valid Thai Visa, copy of Thai work permit and stay permit ( For the  third county citizens

5. A copy of hotel reservation.

6. A copy of air ticket.

7. Copy of the previous visa (if any).

8. A valid passport with 06 (six) months validity.

9. An authorization letter, in case the applicant is unable to submit in person.

Diplomatic Visa/Official Visa:

The following documents will be required for diplomatic/official visa:

  • Note Verbal or official letter from the concerned Government/ Embassy/ Office/ Organization;
  • Two copies of 45mm X 35mm photographs;
  • Duly filled-in visa application form
  • Note Verbal from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is required for the Exemption of the Visa fees for the official visits
  • Visa will be given only on the Official Passport

Investor visa:

Investors in existing / new/ under construction/ upcoming industrial /commercial entity in the private sector under joint venture or 100% foreign owned company are eligible for investor visa. The following documents will be required for investor visa:

  • Letter of recommendation from the Ministry of Industries, Dhaka or the Board of Investment (BOI) or Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), Dhaka;
  • Two copies of 45mm X 35mm photographs;
  • Duly filled-in visa application form.

NGO visa:

Individuals appointed in an NGO registered in Bangladesh would be eligible for NGO visa for employment/service. The following documents will be required for NGO visa:

  1. An appointment letter from the concerned NGO in Bangladesh which should be duly attested by the NGO Affairs Bureau, Dhaka;

2. A letter from the present employer where the applicant belongs to;

3. Recommendation letter from NGO Bureau Affairs Dhaka.

4. 2 recent color photographs (2 inches size and a stamp size 2 cm. x 2 cm.) with white background

5. Copy of valid Thai Visa, copy of Thai work permit and stay permit ( For the third county citizens)

6. A copy of Hotel reservation.

7. A copy of air ticket.

8. Copy of the previous visa.

9. A valid passport with 06 (six) months validity.

10. An authorization letter, in case the applicant not able to submit in person.

Journalist Visa:

Journalists of newspapers / magazines /TV or radio networks / news agencies /representatives of print, electronic or satellite media / freelance journalists would be eligible for journalist visa for the purpose of professional duty in Bangladesh. The following documents will be required for journalist visa:

  • A support letter from his/her organization describing the purpose of his/her visit;
  • Duly filled in FF-I and FF-II forms;
  • Two copies of 45mm X 35mm photographs
  • Duly filled-in visa application form.
  • Passport copies (the main picture page and valid Thai visa page)
  • One set of a copy of Thai work permit.
  • A copy of press identity card
  • A recommendation letter from organization/ News angency in Thailand, providing necessary information such as the correspondent details, what subject will be recovered in Bangladesh and the equipment/kits for example: camera to carry for journalist  purpose.
  • For Shooting in Bangladesh to produce TV / Video Film / Documentary by Foreign Network / Organization / Media House need this application form duly filled.

Note:

  • Consular officer may ask for additional documents, if required.
  • Foreign citizens/nationals of India and Pakistan traveling to Bangladesh by air with a valid visa for 90 days or more are required to REGISTER at the airport. In case of entry through land port, such registration should be completed at the nearest District Special Branch (DSB) / City Special Branch (CSB).
  • Application for extension of visa should be submitted before expiration of the existing visa. Penalty for over-stay will be imposed if application for extension of visa is submitted after the date of expiry of the visa.
  • Visa category cannot be changed after entering into Bangladesh.

Extension of Visas:
