Observance of the 93rd Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day 2013

The 93rd Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day 2013 was observed on 17 March 2013 at Bangladesh Embassy, Bangkok with due respect and fervor. Embassy officials and expatriates of Bangladesh living in Bangkok along with their children attended the programme. 

The programme began with laying of floral wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by H.E. the Ambassador Mr. Kazi Imtiaz Hossain. One minute silence was observed in memory of and homage to Bangabandhu. The children also laid floral bouquet at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. A special munajat was offered seeking divine peace and blessings for the departed soul of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and for a prosperous Bangladesh as dreamt by Bangabandhu. The messages of the Hon’ble President and Hon’ble Prime Minister issued on the occasion were read out by the Ambassador. A documentary on the life and contributions of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman titled ‘Bangabandhu- Forever in our Hearts’ was shown. 

A discussion session was organized where children of the Embassy officials and expatriate Bangladeshis predominantly took part. In their speeches, the children said that they had reason to smile for being the citizens of an independent State only for Bangabandhu. They paid deep tribute to Bangabandhu for his unwavering struggle and charismatic leadership for the independence of Bangladesh. The discussants from the expatriate community highlighted the spirit and philosophy of Bangabandhu in establishing independent Bangladesh. In his speech, the Ambassador paid deep tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and recalled his contributions in the independence of Bangladesh. The Ambassador particularly encouraged the children to keep up with the spirit of Bangabandhu in order to build through their hard work the “Sonar Bangla”-the dream of Bangabandhu.  

An art competition was also arranged for the Bangladeshi children residing in Thailand in commemoration of the Day. Ambassador Kazi Imtiaz Hossain congratulated all the children for taking part in the competition and the spouse of the Ambassador presented books on the life of Bangabandhu and other gifts to the children to encourage them to cherish the festivity. 

A cake cutting ceremony also took place for the 93rd birthday of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
