Your Excellency Ms. MadurapochanaIttarong,Ambssador of Thailand in Bangladesh,
Excellencies,
Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

Sa-yan-sa-was, and a very good evening to you all. It is a matter of honour and immense pleasure for me to be here amongst this august gathering on the occasion the 85th Birthday of His Majesty King BhumibolAdulyadej and the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand.

Excellencies,

On this grandeur occasion, on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh and on my own behalf, I congratulate and extend our warmest greetings and heartiest facilitations to his Majesty, the Government and friendly people of Thailand. I also bring with me greeting and best wishes from the people of Bangladesh for His Majesty the king of Thailand, who is currently the longest reigning monarch in the world and widely respected and admired far beyond the borders. We, in Bangladesh appreciate His Majesty's wisdom and sagacious guidance of all these years that has led Thailand to achieve a high level of progress and rapid development. This grand day will mark the glorious history of Thailand's economic, commercial, cultural and social achievements.

Excellencies and Distinguished Guests,

Bangladesh and Thailand have long enjoyed friendly relations as trusted and tested friend, even before the two countries established diplomatic ties on October 5, 1972. The friendship between us has grown from strength to strength which is evident from the multifaceted cooperation that we are having now. Our "Look East" policy greatly emphasizes on deepening and strengthening cooperation with South-East Asian countries. It is high time for us to boost our relations into a wider "Asian Home" for greater political and economic gains, because, the current century is the century for Asia. Therefore, the 40th anniversary of Bangladesh-Thai diplomatic relations this year marks a milestone in the long-standing friendship between our two democratic nations.

Excellencies,

Our two countries are today bonded by common aspiration for peace, security, stability and development. The two countries have consolidated these relations over the years through mutual cooperation and frequent exchange of high level visits. The present Government of Bangladesh under the leadership of Honb’le Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is committed to further cementing the bilateral relations with Thailand for the benefit of the people of Bangladesh. We are looking forward to the forthcoming visit of the Thai Prime Minister H.E. Ms. YingluckShinawatra to Bangladesh on 21-22 December 2012. I strongly believe that the visit will further strengthen our long-standing friendship and cooperation and usher the way forward for newer areas of cooperation for our mutual benefit.

Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

Bangladesh and Thailand are now giving priority to expand the existing cooperation especially in the areas of trade, investment, energy, infrastructure development, tourism and agriculture. The people to people contact between the two countries is also expanding. Besides, there has been an increase in interaction among the businessmen of the two countries. A number of Thai-Bangladesh Joint Ventures have been operating in Bangladesh and more joint ventures are expected to take-off in near future.

Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

Both Bangladesh and Thailand work in close concert in different international and regional fora. Apart from working together in the UN, NAM, BIMSTEC, ACD, Bangladesh is now set to work side by side with Thailand as a participant of ARF and new member of ASEM. I believe, our commonalities of interests will lead the two countries develop together. On the auspicious day, I wish for the well-being, good health and long life of his Majesty the King as well as for the prosperous future of the people of Thailand.

Thank you, Excellency MadhurapochanaIttarogn, for organizing such a graceful event.

Joy Bangla! Joy Bangabandhu!
Long live Bangladesh-Thailand Friendship.
Kob-kun-mak (Thank you) and Ra-tee-sa-was (Good night)
